SUMMARY:
Working in a position shared by the Claim Legal Property and Auto groups, this person will be responsible for providing coverage advice, managing litigation, general legal counseling, compliance counseling, managing regulatory relationships and supporting a broad array of business initiatives for the property and auto lines of business.

PRIMARY DUTIES:
Primary legal functions are coverage interpretation/coverage advice and managing complex coverage and extra contractual litigation
Provide first rate counseling on a broad array of legal and regulatory issues, including developing, communicating and implementing legal strategies and solutions to address such issues
Take ownership of coverage advice and results
Promote optimal claim outcomes by employing the right strategy at the right time with the right resources
Work with outside counsel on litigated matters to analyze issues, develop and implement cost effective legal strategies on complex claims and lawsuits and prepare for settlement or trial, as appropriate
Prepare and utilize motions, briefs, pleadings, legal documents, correspondence and memoranda to identify and protect legal interests of the company
Propose, prepare and evaluate oral and written discovery
Maintain positional consistency on all property and auto issues
Coordinate positions with other company units
Timely identify exposure and quantify risks
Set strategic goals and drive matters to desired outcomes
Have frequent, independent contact with clients, witnesses, experts and adversaries
Inform and advise clients regarding strategy and case developments
Maintain awareness of judicial climate and current case law
Review and control outside legal costs to ensure compliance with corporate guidelines
Effectively communicate legal, claim and business issues to management, peers, subordinates and business/claim partners
Build relationships within Claim Legal and throughout Claim.
Develop and deliver training to business partners on a variety of topics
Demonstrate awareness and dedication to business initiatives and goals.
Provide real time information and insight to all business partners to better achieve company objectives

EDUCATION/COURSE OF STUDY:
JD degree required along with minimum 7 years experience managing litigation and/or providing coverage advice
Of the 7 years experience managing litigation and/or providing coverage advice, a minimum of 3 years experience must be managing property and/or auto litigation and/or providing property or auto coverage advice

WORK EXPERIENCE:
At least 7 years of continuous practice as a lawyer

CERTIFICATES/DEGREES:
Requires law degree and admission to practice in at least on jurisdiction

OTHER:
Technical expertise in property and/or coverage in multiple jurisdictions, strong litigation management skills, strong technical and strategic skills
Exhibits a constant and passionate customer service mindset
Strong communicator who uses this skill to help drive the organization's vision, need for change and continual improvement.
Ability and desire to work across organizational boundaries
Experience with severe and complex claims
Big picture thinker capable of providing clarity of overall coverage challenges and litigation activity
Excellent time management skills, along with the flexibility and ability to respond to the demands of two separate legal groups.
Proven litigation, litigation management and coverage advice track record
Excellent advocacy and negotiation skills
